I'm not suggesting that we do this but merely highlighting a Sportive event in its inaugural year which I've just become aware of. Might be worth looking at if it emerges again in 2018.
Three distances, 54 miles, 78 miles and a mighty 97 miles, all starting from and finishing at Lytham St Annes with the longest route heading deep into the Ribble Valley.

"In its first year, the temptingly titled West Coast Fish and Chip Ride takes you from city to sea, exhibiting some of the best of Bowland en route. With one or two tough climbs to test you, and — perhaps more pertinently — work up an appetite, we will make sure that you are well rewarded for your efforts once you reach the coast! A tasty and well-earned portion of fish and chips right on Lytham Green awaits the riders who tackle this brand new sportive. There’s nothing quite like lunch by the sea"!
