As of 27th August 2020 Cycling UK has notified us that up to 15 riders are permitted on a ride, provided the leader is happy with that number. Unfortunately one still has to apply the local restrictions so for cyclists living in Greater Manchester (Bolton), parts of Blackburn, Pendle and Preston etc the 6 restriction still applies, so for people from these areas to join the ride it has to be restricted to 6. Equally if we host a ride from any of these area we are restricted to 6. The start of tomorrows ride (Bilsborrow) for example is about 10 yards inside the Preston Boundary. The poor cyclists in parts of Blackburn are not even eligible to come at all. So for the present the maximum 6 will have to remain.
Hi, As I live in BOLTON, even though only on the edge of it, I wonât be allowed to come under current rules.
So to make sure no one gets into trouble Iâm taking myself off the group rides for now. Hopefully it wonât be too long before I can join you again. Be out on my own for a while instead. CathYes, These local measures are really affecting our activities badly. My interpretation is that ideally âtheyâ would like everyone in Bolton to stay there but that as a rule would be too unpopular. It seems to me bike rides of up to 6 can continue even for Boltonians as we are effectively a socially distanced activity outdoors. The problem is cafe stops where none of us are supposed to socialise as such, at least from Monday, and people from Bolton are not allowed to visit cafes. I assume if Cath were to come and bring sandwiches that may be within the rules. I donât know either whether we could use the outdoor food hut at Glasson Dock which has outdoor tables. Is it classed as a takeaway? and would that mean anyone from Bolton could buy food there. Who knows.
Iâm really not certain myself about this. Somewhat confused about sports activities. May depend on definition of âorganisedâ and whether a cafe stop counts as socialising. I could always sit at a distance and pretend I donât know you đ.
I consider myself low risk as I work from home and rarely mix with anyone other than outdoors, but want to avoid problems for the group for instance if cafes need details for track and trace. As you say I could just sit outside with my own food.Cycling uk say they will probably update guidance on Monday. Not sure that will answer all our questions.
Well Today Cycling UK has updated it’s guidance for group rides and it is back to 6 again, so for us that is no real change. One issue is they vaguely suggest we cannot stray into any area covered by additional lockdown restrictions, such as Bolton, as we would have to abide by the restrictions within that area and disperse. The Government offers no specific advice on this but for ride organisers it means we have to be careful our rides do not anywhere stray into areas of additional restrictions, quite difficult if you live in the midst of a load of them. It means, therefore, future rides will continue to run only from and within areas without additional restrictions and of course this could involve cancellations as things change.
As of Tuesday 22nd Sept it looks like most of Lancashire will enter additional measures. It seems Blackburn with Darwen may be released soon but who knows? In any case this weekends ride can still go ahead but there will be no more rides for the moment unless somebody who lives in Blackpool wishes to put one on over there!
Since the previous post the reality of the rule change is somewhat different. We can continue with 6 person rides, even with people from Bolton, but we have to forgo Cafe stops. We will initially try and continue with the shorter rides and I am trying to get clarification as to where we can stop for lunch so we can perhaps do some sandwich rides.
