There is no 100 mile event this year but the 60 miler is over a new course starting from Clitheroe.
It’s scheduled for 5th September with full info/entry details available from http://www.ribblevalleyride.org

The website doesn’t appear to be live yet but you can book an entry here https://www.sientries.co.uk/list.php?event_id=8065
There is a facebook page and a link to the proposed route on strava. The route is completely different from the last time Paul and I did it, removing the killer hill of Malham Rake, and indeed all of Yorkshire. Instead we are treated to Jubilee tower and the Trough with a return round Easington Fell, so all familiar roads.
I would like to do it but am on a cycling holiday in Scotland the week before so have to drive back the day before. This means I will either be fit as a butcher’s dog or completely knackered.Doing it as a group ride would be good. There was never a problem with late entries in the past.

All things equal I would like to do it this year. It is normally a brilliantly organised event but I was always a bit deterred from repeating previous rides, trying to re-capture my lost youth (cough cough)
A new course could be interesting.
My cycling has been pretty much zero through the winter so a ride like this could be a motivational target. Or a nervous breakdown.

Jim, the trip to the Costa del Sol with associated inhaling everyones viruses at 30 thousand feet doesn’t seem quite so appealing this year hence I’ve slotted 5th September into my diary as a potential highlight.

As Sunday the 5th September is nearly upon us, I would like to decide whether or not to post the Ribble Valley Ride as a group ride on the website. Any chance we could have an idea of interest?
The 60 mile route takes in the Trough of Bowland and Jubilee tower from the Dunsop Bridge end i.e. the reverse of the way we have done it in the past. There is also 25 mile route. Cost is £22 for the 60 and £15 for the 25.
    Entries close on 2nd September

As it happens I’m doing it already. Don’t normally do sportives much but happy to support rotary club stuff as more of the money gets to the charity. There’s a nice one runs from Kirkudbright every year. Great chippy for later too!

I’m new to this group, looking for cycle buddies to help me stay motivated. Id like to do this sportive but definitely need to train for it. Are there any rides planned? Yesterday I did 57km averaging 15km ph 660 m ascent.

Hi Amanda and welcome to the Bikers. Yes, there’s usually a ride every Sunday although if the weather is awful as has been on occasions of late it might not happen.
You should as a group member, get an email when a ride appears on the site, the ride information we give is fairly comprehensive and we are not racing snakes so no chain gangs here! Average speeds are around 12mph or 20kph if you prefer, which is easier to achieve in a group but if it’s lumpy then that will drop a bit. S
There’s always a break for a cafe so there’s achance to have a chat and ask questions about stuff.
I did the Ribble Valley last year and while it’s tough, generally if you pace it correctly you’ll be fine if you build up gently over the year. I’ll probably do it again this year possibly some of the others will as well so you may have some company…..feed stops are great by the way!

    Welcome Amanda,
I am sure you would be fine on the rides. At present most Sundays, all of which would be reasonable training for the Ribble Valley Ride. Only Andrea and I last Sunday. We averaged 15 Km/hr also over 77 Km, though it was bl***y hilly. Probably be a flatter ride this Sunday, If you have any suggestions that would accommodate you I can incorporate them. I can guarantee if you do come on the Sunday rides you should be well able to to the Ribble Valley ride. I too will be happy to go as a group ride, not sure which distance. The 60 mile was tough enough when I did it, but the route changes.
