Two options for the return route can be found on the ROUTES page of this website and can be decided on the day. Lunch at 29 miles at the Waterloo Sunset Cafe, followed by the ride up the coastal path to view the statues many of which have been recently resurrected. The coastal path can be congested with pedestrians and blown sand, though on the last visit it was clear. As this is a long ride the plan is for two cafe stops, the second usually in Ainsdale, though there are other options.
Apart from some undulations on the outward leg and the gentle ascent of Parbold hill from the easy side, this is a pretty flat ride, so do not be put off by the distance.

A ride out to view the Anthony Gormley statues on Crosby Beach.This is the outgoing leg. Two choices for the return to Chorley are listed separately.
Leaving from Astley Park gates, Chorley PR7 1JU. Car Parking is conveniently located on Queens Road car park. This is next to the park gates. Turn right immediately after the park gates when entering Chorley from the Preston direction or M61 junction 8. Parking is free after 5 p.m. Weekdays and Saturdays and all day on Sundays.The route goes via Euxton, Eccleston, and Wrightington. Over Parbold Hill from the easy side, thence Parbold, Westhead and Town Green to cross the A59 at Maghull to Sefton Village. Then via Rimrose Country Park to Waterloo and Crosby Marina, for a lunch stop hereabouts.
The Gormley Statues are visible by riding up the Sefton Coastal Path, One of the Sustrans ‘150 great days out'. This part of the route is included in the return route options listed separately.
