Whilst a lot of people are keen to get back to group riding as from this Monday I still remain somewhat frustrated. The regulations as I interpret them are that we can recommence group riding of up to 15 participants. Sounds great BUT, we have to remain local, the definition of this being as clear as mud. We can only travel a reasonable distance to start our rides, the definition of this being of similar clarity. Cafes will still be closed, so rides will have to be short, bring sandwiches or try and find a takeaway. To my mind this is not really much progress.
So the way I see it is: anyone putting on a ride can still only do so in their own area. Anyone wishing to go on a ride can only do so if it is in their own area. Given our group is spread over a wide area it seems like many of us will still be unable to ride together.
I will recommence some rides for Chorley area for those able to attend. Beware that Police in our own area are checking number plates and fining people who have travelled from other areas, they seem to have a clearer idea of what the Government intended than I do. Given the vagueness of the term local area I would not refuse to go on a ride with somebody who travelled in as only the Police seem to feel they know what local is.

Promised ‘latest guidance’ from BC today. Not sure that will answer queries on how far we can cycle and if we can travel further afield to cycle. BC ‘waiting for information from GOVT + Sport England.’

It’ll just be nice to get out with friends again, missed that. I’ve taken to carrying a small flask of coffee and some bits and pieces in a Camelback, must know every bench stop between here and Lathom now

I have now further pored over the various cycling bodies’ advice and government guidance. Thank’s to Andrès for his thoughts and interpretation, and Geoff for the same. Lancs police website implies they are only able to fine people who travel in and out of tier 4 areas, which of course do not exist anymore, so it seems unlikely that travelling to the start venues of cycle rides is likely to be a problem, as this is left to our discretion. For me the furthest distance I have to go by car to one of our regular starts is 19 miles. We can now cycle in groups of up to 15 (not much chance of that!) provide we keep to groups of no more than 6 at breaks or food stops, at which we must be wholly separated. Otherwise the usual precautions apply of 1-2 metre distancing between individuals. I hope to put on a ride this Sunday, from Chorley in the first instance, just need to be sure of the weather and check a food stop. Cafes are still restricted to takeaways and we cannot even sit outside them.

From w/c 11th Apr I am going to put up some evening rides round Blackburn as the light evenings are with us. They will be short and straightforward for now as I am a bit rusty (like my bicycle) and need to work off my lockdown belly.
    What can go wrong??

Looking forward to sunkissed evenings hurtling down to Samlesbury Bottoms.

Hurting down no problem Paul, hurtling up the other side in any way that doesn’t resemble an asthmatic tortoise is the trick
