I was sad to hear of the death of Bob Ingram. Bob was the cyclist who died after coming off his bike on Cowling Brow, Chorley in August. His name was not initially reported. Bob was a vintage bike enthusiast, and attended a couple of our evening rides on his restored Bianchi. He was often to be seen cycling in the area.
His wife Marianne has donated his cycling clothes to the Cancer Research charity shop in Chorley, where they should be available soon. He had a lot of vintage tops, undoubtedly in perfect condition.

Sorry to hear this, and condolences to Bob’s friends and family.
I lost my sister last December, killed while cycling by a reckless driver. It made me question whether cycling is a good idea on roads. After this i could not get on a bike for 2 months. It’s natural to think this way, i had to allow myself to grieve.
But don’t give up cycling. Bob loved cycling, he knew the risks and lived his life that way. The best tribute the rest of us can give is to keep riding

I had read about it as this is a regular stretch of road we ride. It’s such a delicate balance of worrying about the possible outcome but enjoying being out there.
I suppose the best tribute is to enjoy riding but stay as safe as possible.
Further to my email about the circumstances leading to the death of Bob Ingram, I am posting a photograph of the damaged fire hydrant cover on Cowling Brow responsible for Bob coming off his bike. The Local authority apparently claims the manhole was inspected as satisfactory 4 weeks before the incident, which was on 14th August 2024. The solicitor is seeking evidence that the damage preceded this time. It is not present on the Google images street view of 2022. The hope is the image may jog somebody’s memory that it may have looked like this before 14th July or thereabouts.

I do have some other images alsoI may have captured Cowling Brow on my GoPro on Sunday 11th Aug 2024 when we did the Chorley 100.
If you are still looking for more info and someone could confirm Cowling Brow was on the route, then I can review the video if that would be useful.
