The old tram bridge over the Ribble and linking with Avenham Park/Guild Wheel has been closed off for quite sometime with structural issues whilst Lancashire County and Preston City Councils bat the issue back and forth.

Thanks Paul, I have signed the petition. The closure of the bridge has been a major pain for access from and to Chorley. I agree it would be a good idea to restore it, or failing that create a through clear cycle / walking route from the old tramway route using the other bridge.
Just reading an interesting history of the bridge and Tramway. All part of a scheme to connect Kendal, Lancaster, Preston to the Leeds Liverpool canal (at Whittle) and on to the Wigan coalfields. This despite trying to fund the venture on a very tight budget. For the few who don’t know this already, I am sure to have more information when I have finished reading. You have been warned.
