Start is from Astley Park Gates, Chorley PR7 1JU. Car Parking is conveniently located on Queens Road car park, PR7 1JU. This is next to the park gates. Turn right immediately after the park gates when entering Chorley from the Preston direction or M61 junction 8. Parking is free on Sundays but there will be a charge on other days. There is an alternative car park on Hallgate, Astley Village, Chorley PR7 1NP, on the other side of the park. This is a fairly large car park and is free. There are toilets at Astley Hall, though they may not be open until 9 a.m.
The route passes clockwise down Market Street then along Bolton Road taking the A673 to Adlington, Anderton and Horwich. This continues as Chorley New Road to Middlebrook via cycle paths. Following Route 80 you get to Lostock and follow the Middlebrook trail, exiting at Ginlow Lane to join route 55 south via the Roe Green and Ellerbrook Looplines. You then turn West alongside the Guided Busway shortly turning South along Hough Lane taking you to the Lancashire Mining Museum in Astley Green. From here join the Bridgewater Way alongside the canal eventually turning north into Leigh, Westleigh and Hindley to re-join Route 55 through Haigh Hall, then Coppull and Chorley, returning through Astley Park.
