Leaving from Astley Park gates, Chorley PR7 1JU.
Car Parking is conveniently located on Queens Road car park, PR7 1JU. This is next to the park gates. Turn right immediately after the park gates when entering Chorley from the Preston direction or M61 junction 8. Parking should be free after 5 p.m. and all day on Sunday.
The route passes via Cowling Brow, Limbrick and the Bay Horse at Adlington. Thence to Rivington Village and via Rivington Road up the steep climb before descending into Belmont Village. From Belmont is a long section of A road through Abbey Village to Riley Green, most of which is a fast descent. Next stop is Houghton where there is a more gentle descent to Higher Walton before joining the Guild Wheel from Walton-le Dale and Avenham Park. A passage through the dock area then leaves the Guild wheel to pass through Ashton Park with a further Guild Wheel section to Lea Lane and Roots cafe, where lunch can be taken when open.
The return leg re-traces some of the outward route, initially to cross the Ribble to the road through Penwortham, Longton, Midge Hall, Moss Side, Runshaw Moor, then Euxton to Astley Park.
